The contributions this man made to the world will be dearly missed: A soldier, a farmer, a horse trainer, a cook, a waiter and a mechanic. The school of hard knocks taught him to excel as a teacher, a leader, an inventor, a survivor, a disciplinarian, and a manager to name a few. As time passes I realize how he was a protector and devoted whole heartedly to his wife and family. He saw the best in people and forgave quickly. He was considered firm and strict to some, but they came to respect and admire him with age.
His children grew up with weekends filled with flea markets, road side clean up, and scrap metal recycling just to pay for vacations. Then it was horse shows and rodeos. An open door policy applied to all Holidays, where family, neighbors and strangers could taste the joys of food and fellowship. Later in life Dallas and Rae owned and operated Dal-Rae High Country Inn Restaurant in Red Feather Lakes, CO, where family and friends spent weekends waiting tables, entertaining, and eating the best prime rib and broasted chicken in the country.
Dad’s faith was never in question, but he refused to be a hypocrite. Never did a family meal prayer go by that tears did not run down his face. He was so humbled before the Lord, “I can only imagine” how he reacted when he saw Jesus.
