Francis Christopher “Kit” Callahan, age 45, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by his immediate family on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. He was born at Fort Carson, Colorado on March 26, 1970. Kit attended high school at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, Virginia, graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1992 and began his chosen career on the commodities exchange in Chicago, Illinois in 1993. That same year, Kit suffered a traumatic brain injury in Chicago and after months of being in a coma and the ensuing rehabilitation, resettled in Burke, Virginia with his parents. In 2008, he and his family relocated to Northern Colorado. Kit had a huge heart, wanted to give back to two invaluable organizations that helped him in his recovery, Brain Injury Services and the Northern Virginia Brain Injury Association, and with the help of his family started Kit Callahan’s Miracle Mile fun run/walk for their benefit. Kit loved sports (Go Broncos!), the Colorado mountains and his family. He also loved socializing and never met a stranger. His great sense of humor, love of life and his family continue to be an inspiration to all who knew him.
Kit is survived by his parents, Rick & Kim Callahan of Johnstown, Colorado, brother Sean Callahan of Fairfax, Virginia, sister Laura Callahan Elkin of Fort Collins, Colorado, brother-in-law Clyde Elkin, nephews Connor and Mason Elkin, niece Addison Elkin, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Brain Injury Services at 8136 Old Keene Mill Road, Suite B102, Springfield, Virginia 22152.
