Betty Kay Rangel, 71, of Greeley died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Betty was born on November 14, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Fredrick LeRoy “Roy” and Lillian (Woodward) Wymore.
Betty lived in Lincoln until her family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska, where she attended Walnut Jr. High. The family then moved to Greeley, where she finished her education at Greeley High School, graduating in 1960.
On October 2, 1959, she married Richard Rangel at First United Methodist Church in Greeley.
Betty volunteered as a room mother, was a member of Greeley School District 6 accountability committee and was very active volunteering in many school activities and in the community.
Betty focused on her children and grandchildren. She was known as “Grandma Betty” to many high school students. She raised two kids who lost parents and treated them as her own. She made sure the additional children she helped did well in school and they knew she cared a great deal for them. She never knew a stranger and was loved and respected by all who met her. She helped many in need, whom may have been a stranger. Christmas was her very favorite holiday and she made it very special for her family. During holidays, birthday and family gatherings she made her house a home. She was especially fond of her “grand dogs”, Smokey and Molly.
Betty is survived by her husband, Richard; three sons, Don Vincent Rangel, Sr. (Kristin) of Fort Collins, Michael Richard Rangel and Mark David Rangel (Paulette) all of Greeley; sister, Nancy Barden (Rex) of Greeley; brother-in-law, David Rangel of Greeley and six grandchildren, Don Vincent Rangel, Jr. of Fort Collins, Joshua David Rangel of Greeley, Bradley Michael Rangel of Fort Collins, Michael Jerome Rangel of Greeley, Jessica Marie Rangel of Greeley and Matthew Joseph Rangel of Fort Collins.
