Betty K. Lorenz, 90, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. She was born July 11, 1931 in Denver, Colorado and raised by her parents, William “Bill” and Edna D. (Oster) Oster.
Betty attended grades first through ninth at BeeBe Draw, which was a country school ten miles east of Peckham, Colorado. She then attended Campion Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist Christian Boarding School in Loveland, Colorado. She graduated in 1949.
After working as a Nurse’s aide at Weld County Hospital, Betty decided to further her education by attending the University of Colorado after her children were in grade school. She would drive back and forth 50 miles each way. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1965. Betty continued to work as a Nurse at Weld County Hospital and was eventually promoted to Head Nurse in the Intensive Care unit. She retired in 1980, due to health issues.
Betty enjoyed hiking in the mountains, walking two miles a day, going to yard sales, attending senior lunches at the Windsor Senior Center (where she also volunteered) and taking excursions to the mountains, zoo and botanical gardens with her kids. Betty also enjoyed having meals with her friends and kids. She would do almost anything for her son and daughter-in-law, Sally.
Betty loved flower gardening, indoor plants, reading and solving crossword puzzles, until she was no longer able to. She loved dogs, especially her Chihuahuas, Chico, Casper and Shadow.
Betty lived independently after her divorce in 1989 at Governor’s Farms in Windsor, CO until March 2019.
Betty is survived by her son, D Scott Lorenz and wife, Sally, of Greeley; sisters, Helen Lee and husband, Leslie Lee of Mount Vernon, Ohio and Alice Hinkle of Greeley; brother, James "Jim" Oster of La Salle, Colorado; sister-in-law, Jo Oster; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Oster and William "Bill" Oster, daughter, Lorna Jo Lorenz of Estes Park, Colorado and brothers, Alger Oster and William "Bill" Oster.
At Betty’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers or donations, know that Scott and Sally are so grateful for condolences extended and we are appreciative of the kind and compassionate care from Pathways Hospice and the wonderful care received at Bonell Good Samaritan.
