Betty L. Best, 86 of Greeley, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Betty was born December 3, 1931 to Fred and Lucy Alveretta (Lynch) Sauter in Milliken.
Betty had a happy, active childhood that included ice skating, dancing and music classes. She worked at Jess’s Drive-In during high school, where she made many friends. Her constant companion was her sister Joan. Betty attended school in Greeley as part of the Class of 1950.
Betty married Carl Emerson Wood, Jr. in 1949 and moved to the family farm at Barnesville where one daughter was born. Carl died in 1951.
In October 1953 Betty married Archie Jackson Best, Jr. Two children, Diana and Michael rounded out the family. Archie passed away in 2003. Betty participated in the Barnesville community while working at the Weld County Hospital. She attended Aims Community College where she earned an Associate Degree in Computer Science. She taught at both Greeley and Fort Lupton.
Betty was very creative, enjoying drawing, needlework, reading, playing the piano and organ, ceramics and writing. Genealogy was of special interest to her and she enjoyed her large extended family’s reunions. Betty was an active member of the Barnesville Community Club and taught Sunday school at the First Methodist Church in Greeley. She is remembered in many roles including mother, sister, teacher, and friend.
Betty is survived by three children: Lucile (Hans) Arnusch of Keenesburg, Diana Best and Michael Best, both of Greeley; six grandchildren, Lisa (Corey) Rupple, Marc (Jill) Arnusch, Dan Arnusch, Sarah Arnusch, Frasier Stanley, and Madison Stanley; great-grandchildren, TaylorAnn (Casey) Cantwell, Cassidy Rupple, Brett Arnusch, and Tanner Rupple. Betty lived long enough to meet two great-great-granddaughters, Morgan and Maesyn Cantwell. She is also survived by her sister Joan (Stephen) Watson, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sauter.
Betty was preceded in death by both her husbands, Carl E. Wood Jr. and Archie J. Best, newborn son Ziggy Best; her parents, in-laws and four brothers, Lloyd, Clarence, Chester, and Jess Sauter.
Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel with a reception to follow in the Allnutt Reception Center. A private inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
