Betty grew up in Walsenburg, until her family moved to Eaton and then later to Fort Collins. On January 21, 1934 she married Lloyd Chavez at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Collins. He died on October 15, 2005.
Lloyd and Betty lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming from 1942-1972, when Lloyd retired from Union Pacific Railroad. They moved to Greeley in 1972, where they were members of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Betty was a homemaker and nurse’s aide at Weld County General Hospital (now North Colorado Medical Center). She moved to Loveland and has lived there for the past 13 years.
Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross stitching and doing needlework. She loved to cook, her specialty was her roast beef. Above all was her love for her family and their time together.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Melva Wetherington (Glenn), Mary Ramirez (Gilbert) and Betty Montoya (Elmer) all of Greeley and Linda Houston (Tom) of Loveland; son, Herman Chavez (Peggy) of Casper, Wyoming; sister, Florence Silsby of Petaluma, California; brothers, Fred Talmadge of Petaluma and Robert Talmadge (Josie) of Lakewood; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Delores Chavez, two sons, Andy and Luis and four grandsons, John, Rick, Mark and Gary.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1311 3rd Street, Greeley. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
