Alvin Lane Dorsey, Jr., 88 of Eaton, Colorado, passed away at Life Care Center of Greeley on Monday, March 1, 2021. Alvin Dorsey was born in Greeley to Louise (Bond) Dorsey and Alvin Dorsey Sr. on September 20, 1932.
Al lived in the Eaton area most of his life, graduating in 1950 from Eaton High School. He was active in football, basketball, and track and was a member of the Eaton FFA where he attained American Farmer Degree.
After High School graduation, Al attended Colorado A&M (now CSU) and graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry. In college he was a member of the Sigma Nu Social Fraternity, a member of Alpha Zeta and Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternities. He was a three-time letterman in both football and track, where he held the school record in the 880-yard run. Al was a member of “A” Club where he served as President his senior year. During his senior year, he was also chosen as a Pacemaker. After graduation, Al served on the CSU Alumni Board, serving as President in 1984.
In 1954, Al married June Wykert of Eaton and had two sons. Al entered the Air Force and pilot training in January 1955 and earned his wings in March of 1956. After his discharge in September of 1957 as a 2nd Lieutenant from the Air Force, Al was active in the Air Force Reserves until joining the Wyoming Air National Guard for two years before transferring to the Colorado Air National Guard in which he served until his retirement in 1996 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Al joined United Airlines as a pilot in 1966 and was based in Denver until 1992. He transferred to Honolulu and flew to Japan and the Far East until his retirement in 1994.
In 1969, Al married Judy Aschenbrenner of Wiggins. Al was a great CSU fan and supporter. For 51 years, Al and Judy had season tickets to CSU football and basketball games. Al & Judy loved golfing and enjoyed many vacations in Hawaii, Sedona, Arizona, Branson, Missouri, and Germany. They also enjoyed a family cabin on Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, where they loved to fish.
Al was a member of the American Legion, Elks BPOE #809 and the Eaton Country Club for over 53 years. He also served on the board for Honor Flight of Northern Colorado. Over the years, Al officiated high school football and basketball games around Colorado.
Al is survived by his wife Judy of 51 years; daughter Tammy Kuhn (Gary) of Evergreen; sons Mike Dorsey (Sandra) of Greeley, and Kevin Dorsey (Tina) of Windsor; and sister Margaret “Peg” Riley of Eaton. Al was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Michel’le Dorsey of Loveland, Allison, Logan and Nathan Kuhn of Evergreen; Alex Marquez of Florida; and great grandson Michael Creighton of Loveland. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Al is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob, of Eaton, and former wife June Wykert.
The family will have a visitation at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel on March 15, 2021 from 3-7:00 P.M.
Because of COVID – a private family service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church of Greeley, at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the High Plains Honor Flight, the Colorado State University Foundation and/or the First United Methodist Church of Greeley, in care of Allnutt Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
