GORELICK, Michael Richard. A sweet, unassuming man, died in his 82nd year of Lewybody Dementia, a disease he understood well as a former board president of the Alzheimers Disease Resource Center of LI. Raised in Jackson Heights, beloved only child of Harry and Carrie, he was an ace student with a love of tap dancing and handball. Later he excelled in racquetball, bowling, bongoes, musical theater and tennis. What he loved best was dining and laughing with family and friends, enjoying a good cigar and a glass of scotch after a spirited game of ping pong. Graduate of Stuyvesant HS, proud of his full scholarship to Cornell, he decided to stay in NYC, Queens College, did his post grad work at Cornell and the Courant Institute, and earned his PhD at Adelphi. While teaching mathematics he joined New York Life, ultimately entering management. A “roadie” for one son, tennis partner for the other, he was always there to encourage, listen, and brew great coffee. A thorough New Yorker he adored jazz, opera, classical and rock, and regaled us in his resonant baritone with love songs and jokes delivered in dialect. In retirement, he returned to college teaching where his humor and sartorial splendor were admired. He will be terribly missed by his wife of fifty eight years, Toby, his adored sons Joseph (Marlo) and Hillel (Santi), treasured grandsons, Skyler and Bodhi, and Little Miss Reeses. In his memory a donation to the LewyBodyResourceCenter,https://lewybodyresourcecenter.org/ or the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, https://www.adrcinc.org/ is appreciated.
