Ira Karmin MD

Dr. Ira Karmin, 68, passed away on May 29, 2024 while vacationing in Italy with his family. Born on September 30, 1955 to Rhoda and Harold Karmin, he spent much of his life in New York. While he was residing in Pinecrest, Florida at the time of his death, he would have said he was from Great Neck, New York.

Ira was a loving husband to his wife Randye, and a devoted father to his son Bradley and daughter Shayna. He adored his sister Sharon and her sons Brian (Marissa) and Eric (Marla) Mendelsohn, along with their children Evan and Harper, Aiden and Paige. Ira is also survived by his cousins Barbara Friedland and Ginny and Maxine Margolies.

In addition to being beloved by his family, Ira made an immeasurable impact on countless young medical students and residents as an accomplished gynecologic surgeon and mentor. His passion for training the future surgeons in his field was acknowledged with numerous accolades throughout his career at major academic institutions including The Mt. Sinai Hospital and Albert Einstein in New York, as well as the University of Miami where he served as a distinguished member of the faculty for the past 17 years, including a tenure as Chairman of the Department of Ob/Gyn from 2011-2018. His impact on patients and colleagues alike will forever be cherished.

A funeral service for Ira will be held Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Riverside-Nassau North Chapels, 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY 11021, followed by a committal service at 1:00 PM at New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY 11704.

Family and friends are invited to attend Shiva at the Karmin residence in Pinecrest, Florida on Sunday June 9th from 3pm to 8pm and Monday June 10th from 4pm to 8pm. Minyan on both days will be held at 6:30pm.
