Born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 20, 1952, he grew up in the home of his parents, Stuart and Elaine Trinkoff, in Lake Success, New York, a suburb of Long Island.
Hal is survived by his daughter Molly, son Fred, Fred’s wife Emily, and their daughters, Alice and Jane, along with his father, Stuart, brother Paul, and nephews, Adam and David.
Hal graduated with a BS from Cornell University with a double major in engineering and pre-med before earning his medical degree from SUNY-Downstate in Brooklyn. He completed his internship and residency in neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. For almost 30 years, he cared for his patients at his practice in Meriden, Connecticut.
Known for his lifelong passion for musical theater (with a special place in his heart for Gilbert and Sullivan operettas), he could be counted on to share his vast knowledge of Broadway shows or a ticket to join him for a performance. This love was instilled in him from an early age by his parents and included a successful run as the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance at summer camp. He passed down his theater appreciation to his children and grandchildren, taking his granddaughter Alice to her first Broadway show and planning more wonderful show-and-a-meal outings in a year than most people partake in in a lifetime. Hal's family consider themselves very blessed to have reaped the benefits of this favorite pastime of his.
Hal loved sharing his interest in sports with those around him. As a young man, he played tennis, racquetball, squash, and lacrosse. Hal was also an avid spectator, following his beloved Hartford Whalers and Cornell’s Big Red hockey team with his family and friends. He enjoyed running his own March Madness pools and enjoyed golf days and getaways with the guys. Unfortunately for him, he was also a Mets fan.
Hal was a generous man, happy to share a good joke or a good meal with family and friends. Please join us for a memorial service to celebrate his life at 2pm on April 12, 2024 at Riverside-Nassau North Chapels. Following the service, all will be welcome to join us for a meal at Moonstone NY, also in Great Neck.
