He grew up in Mineral Wells, TX, and married Kay Frances Featherstone, his high school sweetheart, on December 3rd, 1955. They were married for 45 years.
Bill joined the US Air Force and served our country for 12 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He flew air rescue in Vietnam and saved the lives of airmen that were shot down in the water, and he received many medals and awards. He went on to join United Airlines where he worked for 27 years, retiring as Captain. He also served 5 years with the National Guard.
Bill had a great passion for flying and started learning how when he was just 15 years old. He was fascinated with electronics, guns and technology. Bill was a very meticulous and orderly man, but he still knew how to laugh at life. He was well known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. His passing leaves an enormous gap in his families’ hearts.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Kay F. Pratt, and his parents William E. Pratt, Sr. and Pearl Pratt.
He found love again when he met Jeanne Fry and they were married on September 27th, 2003. Jeanne’s family welcomed him with open arms, and he loved to spend time with all of them.
Bill is survived by his wife Jeanne Pratt, his daughters Susan Kim Pratt and Teresa Sanford, grandchildren Victoria Kay Buckman and Richard Murray Sanford III, great-grandchildren Bella Ryann Buckman, McKenzie Robin Buckman and Richard Murray Sanford IV; his sister Rita Dunnam, her husband Harral and nieces Heather Ragsdale, Valerie Dunnam and Juliana Dunnam; Kevin Fry and Karen (Fry) Cox, her husband Kevin Cox, and their children, Michael, Matthew and Isabella.
Memorial services will be Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Foust Funeral home. The service will be broadcast over FaceBook.
