Roger is preceded in death by his beloved parents, his beloved daughter, Karen Tidwell Poer, and his sisters, Marcye Tidwell Ward and Eileen Tidwell Sheehey. He is survived by: his faithful wife of 67 years, Judy Green Tidwell; his son, Mike Tidwell (Lynda) of Justin, Texas; his daughter, Nancy Tidwell Hicks of Dallas, Texas; and his daughter, Missy Tidwell Wood (Mark), of Sunset, Texas. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren (Caleb Tidwell, Adam Tidwell, Mindy Moore, Kristin Thompson, Jill Vestal, Dustin Barksdale, Hayden Barksdale, Sam Poer, and Polley Poer), their spouses, and 15 great grandchildren, all of whom love him dearly.
Born in Denton County where he lived his entire life, Roger grew up admiring his uncles and grandparents with whom he spent every moment he could.
He married the love of his life, Judy Green, on May 21, 1955.
He served faithfully for many years as an elder at Hilltop Church of Christ and as a school board member for Northwest ISD.
Roger worked in the trucking industry, first as a truck driver, then quickly worked his way up to being a salesman—his true calling. He made many friends along the way, who he took hunting, fishing and golfing. He turned his job into something he loved to do.
When he first visited Lake City, Colorado, in 1965, he fell in love with the mountains. Beginning in 1966, he returned each year with his family and a host of friends. He introduced countless people to the awe and charm of Lake City, never tiring of the beauty and freedom found in the San Juan Mountains. He taught his grandchildren (and a few great-grandchildren) to drive on those mountain trails.
Roger was truly larger than life. He was an animated storyteller who drew everyone in. Always a passionate competitor and avid outdoorsman, his many hobbies throughout his life included fishing, hunting, volleyball, archery, and golf, which was his favorite. He taught his children and grandchildren to play dominoes, and set up archery target practice in the living room.
In his final days, he spoke often of heaven and his beloved parents. We have comfort in knowing that he is with them, in the presence of Jesus.
