Peter Maximillion Hollwedel, born on June 23, 1959, in Massapequa, New York, was called to his eternal home on February 26, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer. He fought so hard and wanted so much to stay with us, but God wanted him home.
Red, as he was affectionately called, spent his life serving his country. He retired as a gunnery sergeant after spending twenty years in the United States Marine Corps as an aerial navigator on board KC-130 aircraft. After retiring from the military, Red served twenty-three years as a police sergeant in Grapevine, Texas. His journey on earth was marked by integrity, grit, and honor. He was a big, burly, red-headed German who grew up on Long Island with eleven siblings.
Red was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Eleanore; his sisters, Lilly and Teresa; and his brother, Eddie. He is survived by his wife, Kim; his daughter, Jess, and her husband, Dustin; his granddaughter, Stella; and his son, Christopher. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary Hinch, Anne DiMarco, Carol Wilson, Jean Brady, Susan Black, Regina Duncan, and Ellie Vallatini; his brother, William; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He built a beautiful life with his wife and retired in June 2020. They enjoyed the picturesque views of their ranch and worked hard to create a welcoming home for friends and family. They also loved exploring the country in their RV. Red loved hunting and fishing and took great pride in teaching his granddaughter, Stella, how to fish and shoot. He could often be found sitting in a tree stand with her, discussing the meaning of life.
Those who knew Red will remember his deep commitment to those he loved and cared for, his quick wit, and his knack for giving everyone he met a new name to better represent their true personality. He embraced the camaraderie of his fellow Marine brothers and made lifelong friends with the police officers with whom he served. Red was a true sentinel and fierce defender who had a profound impact on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our hearts are broken as we navigate this unimaginable sadness, but we find comfort in knowing he is saving us a place in Heaven.
