Jerry “Jay” Wayne Minick, Jr., 51, of Flower Mound TX, passed away on January 23, 2021. Born in Irving TX on August 18, 1969, he graduated from Lake Dallas High School and served in the United States Navy. Jay was married to Teresa (Teri) Ann on March 29, 1996 and was blessed with four amazing children.
Although workdays were spent as a Construction Project Manager, Jay’s passion was his family. The children’s activities filled his every day with such joy and pride. Whether coaching on the sidelines, cheering from the stands and auditorium seats, Jay could be found supporting not only his children but others as well. He had a love of college football, Texas Rangers baseball, and high school sports, especially Marcus High School, where all four of his children attended.
Jay never met a stranger as was evident by his amazing “village” that he loved so dearly. His vibrant personality drew people to him. However, his intentional desire was to ensure you always felt important when you walked in the room, which he accomplished. He was a loyal and reliant friend; one you knew you could count on even if you didn’t speak daily. His presence will forever be felt in his community even though he will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by Judy Zimmerman Barnhart, mother; Shannon Belew Gates, stepsister; and Richard “Pete” & Myra Minick, grandparents.
He was survived by his “everything”, wife Teri, his parents Jerry & Pam Minick, Tom & Jean Brown parent in-laws, Daughter Tori & husband Ryan Hornung, Son Garrett & wife Ashley Minick, Son Jacob Minick, Daughter Cayli Minick and grandbaby Hornung (August 2021). Additional family members: Brother Shane & wife Jeannie Causey, Brother Jeffrey Minick, Brother in-law Scott Brown and Sister in-law Kim & husband Brian Babicz among several nieces, nephews and other beloved family members, but not to forget his loyal canine, Marcus.
A private service will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, once restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, Jay’s wishes were for contributions be made to a fund to offset the younger children’s continuing education.
