Dennis is survived by his children, Pat and Stacy Davis, Brian and Stephanie Davis, Sarah and Scott Mooney; and his beloved grandchildren, Riley Davis (19), Tanner Davis (14), Jessi Davis (19), Toby Davis (16), Anabel Mooney (16), Bryndolynn Mooney (10), and Grayson Mooney (7). He is also survived by his brother, Don Davis, and his former spouse, Diana Davis of Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Davis and Ernie and Lois Davis.
Born in Denver, Colorado, on February 19, 1945, Dennis was raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he graduated from East High School in 1963. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1965 and served for four years, stationed in Germany. Dennis went on to earn his degree from the University of Wyoming in 1973, followed by a master’s degree in 1976. He dedicated 28 years of his life to teaching history and social studies at Johnson and McCormick Junior High Schools in Cheyenne, WY, before retiring in 2002. Dennis also served in the Wyoming Air National Guard as a Loadmaster on the C130.
He received several honors including a good conduct medal and small arms expert marksman ribbon and was awarded the Wyoming National Guard Meritorious Service ribbon for his work on an airborne firefighting mission in California.
A passionate lover of classic cars, Dennis spent many years restoring and admiring vintage models, often impressing friends and family with his encyclopedic knowledge of cars. He also had a deep love for music, particularly the sounds of The Carpenters, Frank Sinatra and the Beach Boys or any rock and roll. When he was married, Diana and he would go to all the dances and put on a good show with their style! Dennis was in many bowling leagues with his guard buddies and a mixed league with his wife. In his youth, Dennis played guitar in a band called the Chateaus and he continued to enjoy music throughout his life. An enthusiastic traveler, Dennis traveled all over Europe, Africa, Spain and England. Dennis enjoyed spending his birthdays in Mexico, where he relished both the culture and the spicy foods.
Dennis was known for his warmth and generosity, especially towards children. He adored spending time with his grandchildren, taking them to every park in the city. He was also a dedicated member of Southlake Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter and took great joy in making others smile. He attended church regularly and was a fixture of joy and laughter in his community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southlake Baptist Church, at 2501 W. Southlake Blvd, Southlake, TX 76092. Dennis will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
