Becky Lou Broyles Crews was born in Longview, Texas July, 21 1937. Her parents Evelyn Long Broyles, & C.W. “Dutch” Broyles, along with her grandparents Edith Trotter Long, and Joe Long moved from Oklahoma to Longview in the early stages of the East Texas Oil Boom. They developed an important oil and gas lease north of Longview. The family moved to Longview when Becky started elementary school. She graduated from Longview High School, and enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Her mother was also a Pi Beta Phi alum at Oklahoma A. & M. Her father was a member of the Corps of Cadets attaining the rank of Cadet Captain.
On November 14, 1954 Becky had a blind date at Texas A & M University, with the love of her life, Charles R. “Dick” Crews. They never dated others after that weekend. They were married June 22, 1957.
Becky was active in a variety of Christian Ministries throughout her lifetime. Becky was a member of the Dallas Christian Women’s Club, the Pi Beta Phi Dallas Alumni Chapter, and local Garden Club. She and her husband Dick Crews spent years mentoring newly married couples and leading weekly couples Bible Studies in their home. They hosted the Navigators 2:7 Disciples Group Series in their home. She spent many years as a parent volunteer at Trinity Christan Academy, Ole Miss Mothers Prayer Group, and was an active leader at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. Becky could always be found reading her Bible, praying for her family, and spending quality time with her Lord and Savior before the sun would rise every morning.
Becky is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles Richard “Dick” Crews of Grapevine Texas. She is survived by her sister Edith Ann Broyles Williams and brother in law Dr. Lacy Williams of Shreveport, LA. She is survived by her four children son Charles Richard (Rik) Crews II, and his wife Kellie Chako Crews of Longview, Texas; son Corbin William Crews and his wife Katie Freeman Crews of Dallas; daughter Jennifer Crews Angle and husband Timothy Ramsay Angle of Como, MS; and daughter Christen Crews Christie of Prosper, Texas.
She is also survived by: 12 Grandchildren, Whitney and Ryan Hinton, Hattiesburg, MS, Caroline and Tim Angle-Shimwell, Leiden, Netherlands, Charles and Ayla Crews, Houston, TX, Dutch and Carey Leigh Crews, Denver, Colorado, Cody and Caroline Crews, Midland, Texas, Clay Crews of Midland, TX, Noah Scheevel, Frank Crews, and Jake Crews of Dallas, Sam Scheevel of Lubbock Texas, and Andrew Scheevel of Wimberley, Texas. Evelyn Angle of Oxford MS; two great-grandsons Cole and Crews Hinton of Hattiesburg, MS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service Wednesday, December 15 at 11:00 am at the Grapevine Cemetery, Grapevine, Tx followed at 2:00 pm Memorial Service at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel in Dallas, with a reception to follow at the church.
