His family moved to Astoria when he was four years old and later to Salem Oregon. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1970 and attended Western Oregon University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree.
In 1981 Steve met his wife Katie and they married in 1982. They had two children Jacob and Madeleine.
He taught at Lorna Byrne Middle School from 1978-1986, and Illinois Valley High School from 1986-2011, when he retired. Teaching was his passion, particularly US History and Government. He was greatly admired by his students and was asked to give commencement speeches at almost every graduation ceremony throughout his years of teaching at IVHS. He also coached football, basketball and softball for several years.
Steve is remembered for his vast knowledge of American history, sports, music and public speaking abilities. Steve had an inordinate collection of Hawaiian shirts, a witty sense of humor, and he liked lunch.
Steve is survived by wife Katie, son Jacob, daughter Madeleine, sister Carol Davis (Ron), four grandchildren Phoenix, Elijah, Radley, and Killian, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held Saturday, June 12, 5:00 to 7:00 on the IVHS football field.
