Melvin Otto Newland 84, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford Oregon. Viewing will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 9am-4pm at Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Private interment will take place at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Melvin was born January 15, 1934 in Meridian, Oklahoma to James Otto and Lottie (Belle) Newland. After his father’s untimely death the family moved to Watsonville, California where he graduated from Watsonville High, he also attended college in California and Grants Pass for four years. Melvin worked as a grocery clerk for Mayfair Markets and became the U.F.C.W. Union Rep for all of Southern Oregon.
In school, he enjoys sports and was on the baseball team. Melvin loved all fishing, especially bass fishing and he belong to the Bass club where Melvin and his wife Pat entered and enjoyed many bass tournaments. Melvin and his wife love going to Reno and Seven Feathers, Keno was his game he also enjoyed Horse racing. Melvin belonged to the Eagles were he enjoyed shooting pool.
Melvin loved his family and friends and was so caring and kind to everyone he never met a stranger.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Patricia (Marker) Newland, son Michael Newland of Watsonville California, son and daughter-in-law Frank and Lori Newland of Rogue River, Oregon daughter Sabrina Lochrie of Las Vegas, Nevada, sister Marguerite Bloom of San Jose, CA, sister in law Rosemarie Newland of San Jose, California. Brother in law and a sister in law Jim and Kathy Marker of Ramona, Ca, seven grandchildren and six nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Virgil, brothers Harold and Marion and sister-in-law Eudora “Roxy” Newland, brother-in-law Harry Bloom and grandson Brian Newland. Melvin was truly loved and will be dearly missed until we meet again my love. Love today always and forever.
