Jerry B. Nix, 76, of Grants Pass died Monday, July 6, 2015, at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday (July 17th) at Chapel of the Valley – L.B. Hall Funeral Home, with Dave Mathis of River Valley Community Church conducting. Committal with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. He was born March 20, 1939 in Laird Hill, Texas to Horace and Cleo Mae Nix. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 9, 1957 and served as a hospital corpsman until September 24, 1970, when he was retired due to physical disability, caused by injuries he suffered in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnam Service Medal with one campaign star and Fleet Marine Force insignia. On April 7, 1961 in Oakland, California he married Eunice E. Claudson, who survives him. He earned a bachelor of science degree in 1975 from Oregon State University and worked for V.A. Medical Centers as chief of building management. He and his wife settled in Grants Pass in July 1994, coming from Columbia, Missouri at that time. Jerry was a member of River Valley Community Church and was active in Men’s Bible Study. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Susan M. Huseby of Auburn, Wash.; his son, David M. Nix of Evansville, Ind.; one sister, Judy Elimelech of Bnei Dror, Israel; and three grandchildren, Brynan Huseby, Kaylyn Nix and Aaron Nix.
