Gregory Scott Williams (48) of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away on April 24, 2022. Greg was born on July 14, 1973 at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax County, Virginia, the third of three sons, of Geoffrey Thomas and Mary Susan Barrett Williams.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Susan Barrett Williams and brother, Sean Bradley Williams.
Greg attended Hamilton Elementary School in Hamilton, Virginia and Blue Ridge Middle School in Purcellville, Virginia. In 1991, he graduated from Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville, Virginia where in 1991 he was selected to the All-Region Soccer Team and named the 1991 Most Outstanding Basketball Player at Loudoun Valley High School.
After high school graduation, Greg attended East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina from 1991 to 1992 where he played soccer. During his freshman year, he was voted NC Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Freshman of the Year and he was named to the CAA All-Conference Soccer Second Team. Greg transferred to Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina where he played soccer and graduated in 1996 with Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
From 1996 to 1998, Greg was employed by the D.C. United Soccer Team in Washington D.C. as a communication/broadcast liaison. From 1998-2002, Greg lived and worked in Vail and Boulder, Colorado.
During 2002-2006, Greg co-founded, co-owned and operated Scottsdale Financial Consulting, Inc. in Scottsdale, Arizona with Matt Schulz with whom Greg went to high school. Greg lived in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina from 2007-2010, where he was member at Snee Farm Country Club. Greg moved back to Scottsdale Arizona in 2010.
Since 2013 Greg has worked at United Parcel Service as an account manager. In April 2017, Greg moved to Grants Pass, Oregon due to the natural beauty of the Rogue Valley, continuing to work as an account manager for United Parcel Service.
Greg was a gifted athlete and a tenacious competitor. He was a vivacious and happy person who lived life to its fullest and never met a stranger. Greg had an extraordinary gift of connecting with people and always saw the best in everyone he met. He was a “bright light” at any gathering with his easy, outgoing personality, big smile and infectious laugh. Greg’s incredible sense of humor would always make you laugh and often would bring you to tears. Greg, with his dogs Gomez, Ladybug and Radar, loved to spend time in the great outdoors, enjoying nature in the mountains, at the beach or down by and on the Rogue River.
Greg is survived by his father of Salem, Oregon; brother, Geoffrey Thomas Williams, Jr. of Castle Rock, Colorado; half-sister, Casey Leigh Williams of Ormond Beach, Florida, and half-brother Scott MacKenzie Williams of Dallas, Texas; nieces, Barrett Marie Williams, Katherine Kittleson Williams and Jordan Lee Williams; aunts Margaret Jean Richards (Bill) and Constance Williams Rogers of Wilmington, North Carolina; uncles Edgar Lee (Frances) Barrett, Jr. of Manning, South Carolina, James Robert (Page) Barrett of Leesburg, Virginia and John Kelly (Eileen) Barrett of Purcellville, Virginia; numerous cousins; and his many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on May 9, 2022 at Hall Funeral Home, 140 S. Nursery Avenue, Purcellville, Virginia. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM May 10, 2022 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 37018 Glendale Street, Purcellville, VA. Interment will follow at Goose Creek Friends Cemetery, 18204 Lincoln Road, Lincoln, Virginia.
