She was born on April 25, 1922, in Whittier, California, to Del and Aleta Post. She was raised on a citrus ranch with her three brothers, Arnold, Russell and Dean.
She attended East Whittier Elementary School and often mentioned that she had perfect attendance for 8 years. She graduated from Whittier High School and then attended The Bible Institute of Los Angeles.
On June 29, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Martin, and they were married almost 48 years when Bill died in 1990.
After Bill joined the Army in 1943 and was sent to Europe, Eleanor worked at the Western Union office in Whittier. Bill returned home in December 1945, and soon they started a family. Don was born in 1947, Dan in 1949, Darrell in 1952 and Janice in 1954. With four kids, Eleanor was a full-time Mom, but started working part-time after all the kids were in school.
The family moved to Brea, California, when Bill became a police officer in 1955. They moved to La Habra, California, in 1959, when he transferred to that police department.
When the kids left home, Bill and Eleanor moved to Chino, California. She had typing and office experience, and worked for Dennison's in the City of Industry until her retirement.
In 1988, they moved to Grants Pass to be close to their son, Don, and daughter, Janice. Eleanor had hundreds of family photos including some from the 1800's and spent many hours organizing, copying and placing them in memory books. She also included information from her mother's diaries.
Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and faithful follower of Jesus 00 Christ. She found great joy in teaching Sunday School and Children's Church. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life.
She is survived by her three sons, Don Martin of Grants Pass, Dan Martin of Homeland, California, Darrell Martin of Whittier, California; and daughter, Janice Charles of Grants Pass; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Tiffany Ogren, her family, and the great staff of caregivers at Grandma's Lodge for the wonderful and compassionate care that they provided for the last 18 months.
