He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bill was a skilled die maker at the GM 36th Street plant, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Local UAW #730. Bill was a decorated veteran of WWII. During his service, he completed 29 missions over Germany in the 8th Air Force. The decorations he was awarded were the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the French Croix De Guerre. He was a long time member of the Grandville United Methodist and South United Methodist Churches. Bill enjoyed travel, boating and woodworking. He was a kind man with a good sense of humor.
His brothers, James and Rowland Verburg preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; his children, Richard W. Christine Verburg of Grandville, and Marsha Mike Roskamp of Cutlerville; his grandchildren, Veronica Kevin Perdue, Margaret Ray Harman, Therese’ Verburg and Andrew Verburg; three great grandchildren, Olivia, Nicholas and Christian; dear sister-in-law Angelyn Verburg; several nieces and nephews; and his life time friends, Ted Evelyn Battema and Jack Hunter.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 26 from the Cook Memorial Chapel east building 4235 Prairie St SW in Grandville, with Rev. Robert Stover of South United Methodist Church officiating.
The family will meet with relatives and friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home west building in Grandville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the Salvation Army.
