Bob was employed at Smith Industries formerly Lear for 35 years before retiring in 1990, and loved to play music on the doghouse bass with his family.
He served his country for two years with the US Navy aboard the carrier USS Philippine Sea.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Leah Irwin; and his sisters, Eleanor and Barbara.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years Janet; children, Val Irwin and friend Marv Line, Wendy and Dave Zuziak, Nancy and Don Bouwman, Rob and Teri Irwin, Dan and Millie Irwin, and Jan Irwin and friend Tom Hoseth; grandchildren, Anji Wollmartz, Maggie Dan Slabbekoorn, Meghan and Molly Hindenach, Deanna Darrell Ploeg, Chris, Annie, and Michelle Irwin, Aimee and April Irwin, and Jennifer and Jordan Wildey; great grandsons, Billy and Brian Ploeg; brother Don Jean Irwin.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at his church, Byron Center United Methodist 2790 Prescott with his pastor Rev. William Doubblestein officiating.
Interment will be in Winegar Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may meet his family Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville 4235 Prairie St. SW - west building.
