We rejoice with Heaven on the arrival of Randall J Riemersma to the arms of Jesus Wednesday, August 10, 2022. Randy was born to the late Minnie Francis (Busman) Hovingh and Virgil Llyod Riemersma October 18, 1952. He was raised in a close Christian family, working on the farm in Marne. He graduated from Coopersville High School in 1970 and obtained business and accounting degrees from Aquinas and Davenport Colleges. Randy gave over 25 years of dedicated service as the accounting manager to Carpenter Paper/Xpedx and enjoyed serving the Suburban Inns family as CFO for over 15 years, holding a special place in his heart for the entire staff.
Randy was blessed with a large and loving family. Between his mom and stepdad, he had nine siblings who are all very close. He married Christine Nila Schmuker Oct. 5, 1979. Together they raised four children with patience and humility. Randy was a doting father and husband, taking time to teach life skills, tell dad jokes, and give financial wisdom. He was a Bible teacher, earning teaching certificates from Moody Bible Institute and leading Bible studies for many years. Randy really enjoyed traveling with Chris and his friends. They visited many places and he was always in awe of God’s beautiful creations. He was a talented carpenter, making many beautiful birdhouses for friends and family, as well as completing many projects around the house. Randy was a terrific tenor, participating in church choir for decades as well as the Gospel Melody Quartet. He spent many mornings fishing with his friend, Don Dykstra. Randy was known for his quiet strength and wisdom. When he spoke, those around him knew it would either be a funny joke or a nugget of truth to hold close. He bravely faced cancer without complaint and often downplayed the severity of discomfort in order to participate in activities with those whom he cherished.
Those who welcomed him in Heaven are his parents Minnie Francis (Busman) Hovingh, Virgil Riemersma; stepfather, Robert Hovingh; and father-in-law, Erwin Schmuker. He leaves behind his wife, Christine Riemersma; children Jason (Michelle) Sidor, Melody (Chad) Miklusicak, David (Amy) Riemersma, and Sarah Takens. Also left behind is his mother-in-law, Jean Schmuker; grandchildren Dana, Emily, Nicholas, Anna, Johnathan, Emma, Chelsea, Reuben, Henry, and Charlotte; sisters and brothers Peggy (Larry) Tramper, Ron (Carol) Riemersma, Mary (Hubert) Broekert, Sue (Glen) Horling, Norene (Terry) Sattler, Joan (Ralph) Helm, Tom (Jan) Hovingh, Mark (Tammy) Hovingh, and Melodee (Tom) Bergy; sisters-in-law Jackie DeWard and Sharie (Ron) Holben; brother-in-law, Randy Schmuker; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
