She will be lovingly missed by her children and grandchildren Sheri Wierenga (Kristin, Karri, Amy, Scott, Daniel), Ron and Beth Wierenga (Rachael, Lauren), Jim and Sheila Wierenga (Brett, Allison, Katie, Valerie, Jenna, Daniel, Jayden, Drake); 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Gabrielson (Jon, Lisa); and other loved ones and friends.
Marilyn was a graduate of Grandville High School, class of ’56. She obtained her nursing degree from Butterworth School of Nursing followed by a 20-year career in the Butterworth Hospital emergency room, and a second career of about the same length as assistant to Senior Pastor Wayne Benson of First Assembly of God. Marilyn was also instrumental in the founding of Tri-unity Christian School.
Marilyn and Ron loved raising their three children, enjoying many great years of family, friends, church involvement and missions trips. One of her great loves was travel, including camping in all 50 states and trips to many foreign countries where they would often bring supplies for local missionaries. Marilyn and Ron had the privilege of sponsoring and supporting many refugees, some of whom lived with them, including the Nguyen and Truong families who became like family to them. Above it all, Marilyn will be best remembered for her love of Jesus and her desire for others to know Him.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services for Marilyn will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., also at Cook Memorial Chapel.
In honor of Marilyn, contributions may be made to Tri-Unity Christian School in Wyoming, Michigan. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
