

John Fischer, age 86, went to be with his Lord Friday, February 2, 2024. At age 14, John emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada, and then in 1967 to the U.S. John was retired from the Board of Publications of the Christian Reformed Church where he typeset Sunday school papers for many years. He was also a faithful volunteer for Crossroads Prison Ministry, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Janet Fischer; children Wendy (Brian) VanDoeselaar, Alfred (Melanie) Fischer; grandchildren Rebecca (Jon) Davis, Katie VanDoeselaar, Tyler (Sasha) VanDoeselaar, Avery (Carmen) Fischer, Clark (Schuyler) Fischer, Kira Fischer, Kalyssa Fischer; great-grandchildren Joshua Davis, Isabella Davis, Harrison VanDoeselaar, Lana VanDoeselaar, Damian Fischer; siblings Martin (Corrie) Fischer, Janet Hoekstra, Anne (Len) Joosse, Margaret VanderHeide, Ann Wiersma, Gertie DeVries, Charles (Jenny) DeVries, Alice Postma, Christina Kloostra, Joanne DeVries; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Janet’s parents; and some siblings.
Visitation with friends and relatives will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie Street SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A celebration of John’s life will commence 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, with visitation one hour prior, at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 6475 40th Ave., Hudsonville, MI 49426 with Pastor Dr. Doug Kamstra officiating. In honor of John and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroads Prison Ministry and to Faith Hospice.
