Joann was born November 19, 1936 in Friesland, Netherlands to the late Kempe and Jacoba (Wagnaar) Kooistra. Joann went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, November 10, 2022, after a long battle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her brothers (Sister-in-laws) Henry (Jane) Kooistra, Chris Kooistra (Rena), and Jerry Kooistra. Joann is survived by her sister-in-law, LaVon (Jerry) Kooistra. Joann was a precious aunt to Jo Weemhoff, Judy Hamilton, Grace Macleod, Ken P. Kooistra, Margie Bakker, Fred Kooistra, Joyce Marcus, Ken J. Kooistra, Darlene Ritsema, Mark Kooistra, Marcia Koll, and Don Kooistra.
Joann attended Davenport College and worked for many years in accounting for Fruit Basket Flowerland, KRK Accounting, and Godwin Plumbing.
Joann’s life was dedicated to caring for her mother until her passing. She also served her church by helping with the accounting. Joann was a generous giver to those in need.

Funeral services for Joann will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville 49418. Pastor Eric Van Der Molen from Bethany URC, Joann’s church, will officiate her service. Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery at a later date. In honor of Joann and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunset Legacy Foundation.
