Jan went to beauty school and opened her own beauty salon after receiving her cosmetology license in the mid-1960s. She also ran adult foster homes in Scottville, MI and Montague, MI. She worked part-time as a lunch and playground aide at St. James Catholic School.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hamilton; her parents Paul and Frieda (Noordhof) Gould; her in-laws Charles and Lucille (Gardner) Hamilton; and many aunts, uncles, and friends.
Jan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Jason Johnson, and two grandchildren, Makaila and Alec Johnson. She also leaves behind two sisters, Debra (George) Brewer and Paula Gould; three nephews and their families; cousins; and many friends.
Jan has done many great things in and around the community. One of the biggest is being known as “The Cookie Lady.” She was constantly baking cookies for people in community, along with experimenting with new cookie recipes. Jan loved supporting the Montague Wildcat football players and baking cookies for them as a reward for winning the games. If she could make someone’s life even better or easier, she was there in a heartbeat. She was always thinking of others!
Jan is also a multi-year winner in the National Baby Food Cook-off. She won in every category.
Jan had a huge passion for the Tri-Cities Kiwanis Salmon Tournament, baking cookies and seeing smiles on the faces of the kids with cancer. Another huge passion of hers was being able to enjoy watching and hearing about all of her grandchildren’s talents and accomplishments.
The family is planning a combined Celebration of Life for both Tom and Jan Hamilton, possibly this summer outside in a park. Stay tuned for more information.
Please, no flowers. But if you wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-Cities Kiwanis Salmon Tournament at https://tinyurl.com/y8k222eg
The family would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for prayers and support through this difficult time.
