James “Jim” or “Jimmy” Edward Davis, age 78, passed away unexpectedly at home April 22, 2024. Jim was born April 28, 1945 to his loving parents Bob and Isabel Davis in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a child, “Jimmy” was a very active and adventurous boy, always playing outside with his neighborhood friends, many of whom he kept in touch with up until days before his passing. After graduating from Meyers Park High School in 1963 as the “Mustang Club President," he went on to study television and motion picture broadcasting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He proudly wore Carolina Blue and watched as many Tarheel games as he could! Jim was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a captain in the medical services corps. His military career took him all over the world - from San Francisco, California to Heidelberg, Germany.
Jim was always a natural leader - very independent and goal oriented. He started several of his own businesses throughout his professional life. He also was very active in his faith, serving as senior warden at St. Anthony at the Desert Episcopal Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Family was very important to Jim. He was an incredible father to his two children, Brice and Rachel. He was an even better grandfather, or “Papa” to his two grandchildren, Noelle and Hudson. He had several dogs throughout his lifetime, which he loved almost as much as his own children. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping with his family and friends, and playing golf with his best friend, Gary.
Jim will be remembered by those who knew him as someone who always had a joke up his sleeve, ready to make everyone around him laugh. He made friends everywhere he went, and could easily brighten up anyone’s bluest days.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Isabel Davis. He will be remembered by his daughter, Rachel; son, Brice; grandchildren Noelle and Hudson; brother, Bobby; nieces Missy and Katie; nephews Scott and Rob; as well as many cousins and close friends.
A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at a time and date to be determined in Charlotte, NC. In honor of James and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to James’ GoFundMe Family and Funeral Expenses at the following link: https://gofund.me/5b14cfc1 The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
