Hercil (Herk) L. Batts Jr., age 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior while surrounded by family January 18, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Batts; parents Hercil Sr. and Henrietta Batts; siblings Lavonne (George) Visser, Jacqueline (Jason) Kuipers. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lori (Jeff) McPeck, Sheri Batts, John (Kandi) Batts, Mark (Thuy) Batts; grandchildren, Jeremiah McPeck, Lucas (Jenna) McPeck, Emmaleah (Collin) McCullick, Joshua (Chloe) Burke, Samuel Batts, Noah Batts, Joey Batts, Eli Batts, Isaiah (Bailey) Batts, Benjamin Batts, Isabelle Batts, Abigail Batts; and great-grandchildren, Eden McPeck, Erdrick Burke, Rowan Burke; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Herk graduated as a “Rebel” (appropriately) from Lee High School in 1955 after which he served in the U.S. Army. He slung soda for Canada Dry and worked for a time in the yard at Hausman Steel before being promoted to sales. After ten years at Ed C. Levy Corporation, he started his own advertising specialty business, HB Sales Co. He also partnered in commercial and residential real estate ventures. Throughout his life, he was active in the churches he attended including Fifth Reformed, Rosewood Reformed, and Resurrection Life. Herk was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed volunteering and serving others in a number of capacities (marching band, RV club, children's ministry and his neighbors). He enjoyed driving (he stopped counting after a million miles), camping, traveling the country by backroads, fixing cars, and completing all nature of projects around the house. He loved his country and his community in West Michigan. The man could tell tales! More stories than most libraries and nearly all with a humorous conclusion or some level of shenanigans.
