
He emigrated from Hamburg at the age of three to Flint, Michigan where he spent most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother Meta Schultz; father Ernst Zander; and his beloved and faithful wife Evelyn Pauline Frieda Mangels Zander.
Herbert is survived by his three children, Wayne Zander and wife Linda of Temperance, Linda Smithwick and husband Jeffery of Jenison, and Gail Harrison and husband Bill of Petersburg, Michigan.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Levi Zander, Brett Smithwick, Christopher Smithwick, Daniel Harrison, and Brittany Smithwick.
Mr. Zander is a WWII Army Veteran and a member of The American Legion.
He was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 25 years and is a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America.
He will be remembered by his impeccable craftiness, his delight in wildlife, and his yearn for the sea.
Visitation will be at the Marten Funeral Home, 1194 E. Mt. Morris Road in Mt. Morris, Michigan on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m.
Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the National Kidney Foundation.
