My mom, brother, and I came to the US in 2000 to start a new life. We didn't have family here and barely speak English. Fortunately, we met Grandma Flo and she adopted us as her family. I remember she used to come over to our house and teach us English. In the Summer time, Grandma also took us to Lake Michigan, mini picnic, and Meijer Garden. We had a lot of good memories together. We enjoyed those trips with Grandma. Grandma was always good to us, she cooked us food, and she remembered our birthdays and sent us birthday cards every year. Thank you Grandma for everything. Someday I will tell my children about you. I will tell them I had an awesome Grandma. She was a compassionate and kind-hearted woman. We miss you and you will always be in our hearts and memories.

I met Flo the first Sunday that I attended St Paul's UMC.  She greeted me with a smile.  Every Sunday I would admire her beautiful hat.  She was a classy lady with a great personality.  

I remember Flo from 45 years ago.  She lived on Griswold St and I was her press carrier.  Flo always greeted me warmly and tipped me generously.  Interesting how 45 years later I see her photo in the press and think how her kind actions influenced my life. Flo was a special  and wonderful person.

Hearing about her passing, I felt as though my world had collapsed.  I fell into the deepest, darkest despair of humanity.  At that moment, my heart trembles, and I felt as though my world keeps on spinning like a looping rollercoaster ride.  Only after a few minutes do I regain consciousness.  I felt this way because I've placed her in an exceptional place within my life.   She's not only my best friend but also a mother to me, a shoulder for me to lean on difficult days.  I still remember the day my family came to the United States.  Those days, I felt like a tiny bird caught in a ferocious storm, not knowing how to get out.  

I am truly a blessed individual because of her appearance in my life.  She had sheltered and protected me with the heart and nurturing of a mother.  She taught me how to survive in my new life, in a country where everyone was a stranger.   I am very thankful to you, mom.  You left behind many beautiful memories with my children and me.   Your silhouette, smile, eyes, and voice will never disperse even with time.  I love you, mom!

Rog, Sheri and your families, my most sincere condolences. May God be close and comfort you, yours and Ernie. There are just no words to adequately express how special your mother is.  
Where do I start? If you met Flo you fell in love with her immediately. You just knew the warmth in her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes were right from her heart.  She had a way of making every person feel he/she was the most important.   Flo was my boss, co-worker, role model, mentor, partner in crime and most importantly my life long friend.  Distance hampered our time together but never our bond. She listened to my joy and sorrow. Always understanding. I can only hope I was as good a friend to her.  
May she be smiling in the arms of our LORD.
