Erin Rae Collazo

Erin Rae Collazo (Kauffman), age 45, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph M. Kauffman; grandparents Merle (Stefi) Kauffman and Leonard (Darlene) Thompson. She is survived by her son, Zion J. Collazo; daughter, Micah A. Collazo; mother, Lenora G. Kauffman; sister, LeeAnne and Azar Ahamad (Kayden, Aleena, and Zak); brother, Kirk and Maria Kauffman (Eliza and Maggie); and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Anyone who knew Erin knows that she was simply magical. She lived life as large as possible. Her smile would absolutely light up a room. She had the most generous spirit and freely gave of her time and talents. Erin would take you into her circle of friends on meeting you for the first time. Her “happy place” was her large front porch where she gathered with family and friends over a meal she had prepared. She was creative and talented and gave the most thoughtful gifts.

Erin loved time spent on the lake paddle boarding and fishing--or just lazing in the sun. And, she was a city girl at heart. She was so excited about all the growth and change in Grand Rapids.

Music was a passion of Erin’s. Some of her children’s favorite memories are of her dancing with them in the kitchen (to "Anyone Else But You"). We truly believe she was Michael Franti’s greatest fan and never missed him in concert at Frederick Meijer Gardens.

If you asked Erin what her greatest accomplishment in life was, she would say it was her children. She was so proud of them. They’ve grown to be compassionate and caring young adults.

Erin was so very loved. Losing her will leave a huge void in all of our lives, but our memories of her will keep her alive in our hearts.
