Douglas Martin Taylor, age 74 of Jenison, Michigan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Inez Taylor, and his brother, Robert “Bob” Taylor.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Taylor; children Shannon (Tim) Graber, Brooke (Dr. Erik) Lee, Allison (Jason) Mohr; grandchildren Jakob (Colbie), McKenna, Ethan, Zachary, Kameron, Ella, Adriana, Emmet, Isabel, and Kaden; siblings Mary (Tony) Palos, Holly (Allen) Epstein, Harold (Deborah) Taylor; niece, Lauren; nephews DJ, Ryan, and Nate; as well as many friends.
Doug graduated from Grandville High School, Grand Rapids Junior College, and Western Michigan University, and he was an outstanding athlete. He taught for 35 years at Kentwood Public Schools (Crestwood Middle School) as a physical education teacher, coach, and science teacher. His faith was very important to him, as well as his love and devotion to his family, which showed in the many ways he interacted with his grandchildren, as well as his family and friends.
Visitation with Doug’s family will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 4-6 p.m. at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building) 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2021, with visitation beginning at 12 p.m. at Rosewood Church, 2795 Rosewood St., Jenison, Michigan. Pastor Howard Moths will be officiating. Interment is at Georgetown Cemetery.
In honor of Doug and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fans of Valley Field (where Doug played many years in the City Major Baseball League) for the restoration of Sullivan Field, or the American Heart Association.
