Donald Nelson Charles

Donald Nelson Charles, age 83, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Olivine Charles; and granddaughter, Lillia Joyce Charles. Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Janice Charles (Patterson); children Chris and Gwen Charles, Tracy and Ben Elenbaas, Darryl and Nikki Charles, Travis Charles; 15 grandchildren; brother, Tom Charles; brothers-in-law Brian Patterson, Denny and Nancy Patterson, Steve and Sherry Patterson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Donald proudly served his country in the US Navy for 10 years. He worked as a diesel mechanic for the railroad after his time in the Navy, and then worked at Blackmer Pump in Grand Rapids for over 25 years. Don loved baseball, coaching, and serving on the board of Georgetown Little League. He enjoyed watching his grandkids' ball games. Don loved a good beer watching the Tigers, Lions, U of M, and MSU.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2024 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan (East Building), with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. In honor of Donald, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
