Dave had received his Master’s degree in education and early in his career had been a teacher with Grandville Public Schools. Following his teaching career, he worked as an insurance agent with the New York Life Insurance Company. He was very active with the Kenowa Ambucs, joining the “Big Hat Club” and served as Regional Director. Dave was very committed to his church, St. Pius X, serving as a Lector, and for several years working as a member of the Stewardship and Building Committees. He enjoyed his MGs and his membership, including past president, in the West Michigan Old Speckled Hen MG Car Club. Dave will be fondly remembered for a couple of his favorite quotes – “It is what it is” and “Que sera, sera.”
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Brown Harnish, and his mother, Genevieve (Pawloski) Harnish.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 11 years, Linda Harnish; children, Karen (Richard) Millward, Jeremy (Kris) Harnish, and Adam (Cristi) Harnish; father, Arthur Harnish; step children, Lisa (Brad) Henrich, and Jon (Stacy) VanAntwerp; 12 grandchildren; one great grandson; three brothers and three sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson, S.W., Grandville, with Rev. Chris Rouech presiding. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet Dave’s family Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie, S.W., Grandville, and Friday at the church from 10-11 a.m. A Scripture Service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
