Carol Ann Alexander passed away March 29, 2022 at the age of 61, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She is preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Juanita Capriglione and her nephew, Mitchell VanPortfleet. She is survived and missed by her two daughters Emilee (Hunter) Bowden and Laura Alexander; four sisters; five brothers; and the countless friends and lives Carol touched throughout her life.
Carol was born April 13, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. As the sixth of ten children, Carol spent her childhood surrounded by her large and loving family. After the family moved to Grandville, Michigan, Carol became the first female drum major for Grandville High School, allowing her to share her love of music and encouraging her fellow bandmates. A lover of the arts, she encouraged her daughters to appreciate and participate in it all, from dancing to music. She passed on her love of playing the flute to her youngest daughter Laura, who is following in her musical footsteps. Encouraging her eldest daughter Emilee’s love of dance, she could be found in the front row or helping backstage.
An avid reader and lover of words, Carol graduated from Aquinas College with a major in English and spent years sharing her love of words with the many students she taught. Her joy and smile were a bright spot to her students and she was loved by all. She continued to share her love of learning with her two daughters as she homeschooled them all the way through high school. After her daughters graduated, she returned to schools working as an interventionist, desiring not only to help kids read better but to truly love it for themselves.
Anyone who knew Carol was touched by her kindness, humor, and big heart. Passionate about her faith and her relationship with God, Carol attended church every Sunday and could often be found volunteering in many areas.
