I am so sad to hear of Mrs. Boyd’s passing but I loved that she penned her own obituary, that doesn’t surprise me! :)

I was a caregiver for Bob back in 2004 and 2005 and loved him dearly as well.  Joan and I had so many good conversations in the basement of her home on 32nd St.  We watched Lawrence Welk and Antiques Roadshow, Bob frequently interjected comments that made us belly-laugh.  

Joan was such a kind-hearted person and I came to view her as my own grandma.  We met up at Russ’ a couple of times and we exchanged Christmas cards over the years after Bob passed, it made me really sad when my latest card was marked “return to sender.”  I assumed she had either moved or passed on.  

I have spent the last 15 years as a social worker and advocate for the older adult population – this calling I attribute to the months I spent as a young college student caring for Bob and helping Joan.  Their influence on my life was significant and was instrumental in sparking this career path, I told Joan that many times but I wanted to make sure the family was aware of this as well.  They were such special people.  I think of them both often, even to this day, and I’m grateful for the privilege that was mine to know and love them. 



So sorry to hear about the loss of you dear, sweet mother. I have so many fond, fun childhood memories of us kids growing up on Cricklewood .  Susie, I recently came across our kindergarten picture with Mrs. Bean. Where did those years go. !! Wish I could have seen you. Mrs. Boyd was one of my most favorite customers at Pfeffers Pharmacy. She was so kind, such an amazing caregiver.  I had lots of life talks when I delivered medication to her home.  Loved the way she wrote her obituary.  She was a gift to all.

Your Mom was a blessing to us each Monday when Dave played his trombone outside her window.  We appreciated her ready smile and we would talk about the hymn he played.  Many times she would share that it would be a song she and her husband had sung together.  She prayed for us as teachers, and she prayed when we asked her to pray for our foster grandchildren.  We in turn were praying for that newest little baby girl who was born.  Oh, she was so anticipating that birth and praying that all would go well in the pregnancy.  She loved that you came for her birthday and actually giggled when Dave played "Happy Birthday" for her.  One of the last songs we played was, "In the Garden" which we knew was her favorite.  Little did we know it would be one of the last times.  We don't go by the Old Goat restaurant  without thinking of her.  We laughed at that name so many times!  This week we came to an empty window.  It was a blow, but we will treasure the 14 months we were able to play for her and "remind her that it was Monday".  Her obit is so her and gave us another smile through some tears.  We look forward to when we see her again and figure she will probably be playing the trombone right along with Dave in Heaven.  Thanks for sharing your Mom with us!

Sue, Kathy, Mike and your families, what a loss!  I've known your mom my whole life.  She was such a good, best friend to my mom for 60 years.  After Mom passed, I would make sure I visited her when I came to Grand Rapids.  She was such a delight.  Always cheerful and full of fun!  So generous in letting me stay with her overnight.  I don't think I've ever known a more enjoyable person to be around.  We had many interesting conversations together. I will miss her.

I have so many memories with this amazing woman. I will miss her smiling face everytime I walk into her room, & her positive energy.  I will miss our talks, sharing pictures, & seeing her family time to time when I would come see her. I know shes up ice skating, & dancing with her husband & enjoying time with her parents who she missed so much. She said she adopted me into the family,  & I feel blessed to of met such an amazing soul, she will always be grandma to me.  I will forever miss her.
