Mr. Willie Author Wilson, formally of Grandview, Missouri. He was born in Greenville, North Carolina on January 23, 1937 to Harry and Mary Wilson. Willie graduated from Douglas High School in Baltimore, MD. Willie enlisted in the Marines and then the Air Force to the rank of SSgt and also served a year in Vietnam. On October 18, 1958, Willie met the love of his life and married Wilma J. Griffith.
After Willie retired from the Air Force, he decided he wasn’t ready to retire, so he took on another career at Booth Manor, that lasted over 40 years until he retired on November 15, 2022. Willie was known thru out the community in Grandview, even the neighbors and friends would knock on the door or call needing his services. Willie knew no strangers. A true legend in his community. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry and Mary Wilson, two brothers Thomas and Marshall Wilson, two sisters Shirley Perry and Charissa Wright, one son Willie DG Wilson, one daughter Ingrid Hawman and one grandson Christopher Darpoh.
Mr. Willie A. Wilson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 64 years, Wilma J Wilson; a daughter that was dedicated until the end at home, Stephanie Wilson, three sons Thomas Griffith, Oklahoma City OK, Michael Wilson, San Francisco CA and Mark Wilson, Kansas City MO; two daughter in-laws, Brynda Griffith, Oklahoma City OK and Vanessa D. Wilson, Kansas City MO; grandson, JP Hawman at home with his grandfather when he passed; two sisters, Dr. Alverta V. Montgomery, MD and Diane E Smothers, MD; sister-in-laws, Arlene Wilson, MD and Gayle Wilson, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends all over the world, especially the residents and co-workers at Booth Manor.
A visitation for Willie will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at McGilley & George Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 12913 Grandview Road, Grandview, MO 64030. A funeral service will occur Friday, December 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM, 12913 Grandview Road, Grandview, MO 64030. A burial will occur Friday, December 30, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
