Velora Dena Woiwood (Johnson), 97, of Grandview, Mo, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home, Belton, Mo. Private graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
A memorial service is being planned for July, in her hometown of Rock Falls, Ia.
Velora was born April 24, 1927, in Thornton, IA, and grew up on the family farm in Rock Falls. Her favorite school memories were music class, marching band, and playing basketball. She enjoyed ice skating and fishing with her father on the Shell Rock River near her childhood home. After high school, she enjoyed spending time in California before returning to Iowa.
On April 4, 1953, she married Eugene Henry Woiwood in Rock Falls.
Velora worked for Kmart for a number of years. She enjoyed her cats and playing the accordion. Her other hobbies included coloring, sewing, painting, and travel.
She is survived by two sons, Myron W. Woiwood, Kansas City, Mo.; and Allan L. Woiwood, San Antonio, Tx.; one sister, Shirley Campion, California; two sisters-in-law, Lorene Johnson, Rock Falls, Ia.; and Lois Woiwood, Garner, Ia.; two grandchildren, Anna Christine Woiwood, Kansas City, Mo.; and Samantha Woiwood, Kansas City, Mo.; and two daughters-in-law, Linda Smith, Kansas City, Mo.; and Leah Gentry, San Antonio, Tx.
Mrs. Woiwood was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Norman Johnson and Lowell Johnson; and sister Erma Eygabroad.
