Huey Thompson, 87, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at home. A life-long resident of Grandview and south Kansas City, Huey will be laid to rest at Longview Cemetery. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 13000 Bennington, Grandview, MO, 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011. Visitation at the church 6-8 p.m., Tues., Oct. 18. Contributions may be made to the church or Grace Hospice. Huey was born on August 2, 1924. He grew up on the family's farm near Chillicothe, MO. He married Mary Corteville, of Grandview, on October 21, 1944. The couple settled in Grandview, and Huey enjoyed his job as a milkman for Country Club Dairy. For 6 years he owned and operated the D-X Station in Truman Corners. Later, Huey worked for Ford Motor Company, where he retired after nearly 19 years. He then worked for Solo Cup as a security guard. Huey played in country music bands, and often performed a guitar rendition of "Happy Birthday" for his grandchildren. He was a hard worker who enjoyed being outside, tending to his home and large yard. Huey and Mary enjoyed dancing, steak dinners, and traveling. They planned to celebrate their 67th anniversary on October 21, with a Caribbean cruise. Huey was preceded in death by his parents, and their 12 other children, including his twin sister, Cluey. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary, the couple's two sons, Ronald Thompson and his wife Caryn, of Lee's Summit - and their children: Brett, Kurt, Mindi and Tricia; and Gary Thompson and his wife Kathy, of Grandview - and their children, Andrea and Mark. The couple also have 7 great-grandchildren. We have lost a wonderful husband, dad, and grandpa. He will be greatly missed. A special thank you to Grace Hospice and Coronation of Our Lady.
