Edwin L. Vance, age 80, of Grandview, MO passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2017. Ed was born on July 24, 1936 to Charles Edward Vance and Florence Rachel Barlow in Trenton, Missouri. Ed attended Benton High School and entered the United States Marine Corp upon graduation, where he served his country for 30 years, earning the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. Ed earned his M.B.A from Central Missouri State University and worked as an instructor at local colleges for over 11 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Vance.
Survivors include his son, Edwin Leroy (Roy) Vance II (wife Kari and stepson Ryan Bliss) of Kearney, Missouri; granddaughter Alayna Hennessey (husband George and children Logan and Livia) of Statesville, North Carolina; nephews Josh Vance and Justin Vance of Republic, Missouri; cousins Cheryl Belcher of Kearney, Missouri, Karen Jones of Florida, and Dana Jones of North Kansas City, Missouri. Ed also leaves behind many friends and his family from the United States Marine Corps.
Graveside memorial service will be Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10 AM at the Memorial Park/Meierhoffer Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
