Don was born to Alta and Joseph Taverner in Wichita, Kansas. He was the fifth of seven children. Don graduated from Wichita North High School. While attending high school he met his future wife, Sherlene Delores Williams at church. They were married and enjoyed seventy one years together. Don was then drafted into the United States Army serving overseas and in the reserves. After the Army Don continued working with Wonder Bread where he started working as a teenager. He later retired from there in 1990.
He loved camping with his family. Don and Sherlene loved to travel. He enjoyed watching the Royals and Chiefs. He also loved his garden and giving away tomatoes to neighbors and friends. And when it came to game time he was very competitive and couldn’t wait to play with family and friends. Don was known as Mr. Fix It. He loved tinkering around in the basement. Don was known as the family comedian.
Don was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Sherlene, son Jeff, and his wife Lisa Kay, daughter Lisa. Grandsons Nathan and his wife Stacia, Matt and his wife Madii. Great grandchildren Dexter, Harvey, and Julia. A sister in law. He loved his many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Alta Taverner. By his sister Imogene, brother Clarence, brother Joseph Edmond, sister Wanda, brother Gerald, and brother Clyde.
