Dr. Thomas F. Smith

Dr. Thomas F. Smith passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024 at the age of 101. Born in Grand Rapids on January 13, 1923, and was married on June 19, 1954 to his dear wife, Barbara Jean Smith (deceased) for 66 years. Survived by children; Gary (Bonnie) Smith, Craig (Carol) Smith, Tami (John) Todd. Grandchildren; Jason, Brian, Jessica, Jennifer, Kelly, Connor and 7 great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters in law Lois Jarvis and Barb Plachecki and many nieces, and nephews. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and was a World War II veteran in the Navy. After the Navy, he graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School and practiced for over 40 years as a Dentist in Grand Rapids. After retiring at age 65, he returned to Dentistry at age 73 and provided his skills to the veterans at the Kent County Veterans Facility in Northeast Grand Rapids for 7 more years. He was a positive person and passionate about fly fishing, tying flies, hunting and enjoyed the woods and waters of Michigan. More recently he enjoyed jig-saw puzzles. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held on June 13, 2024 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 14, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2275 Diamond Ave NE, Grand Rapids with visitation at 10:00am until the time of mass at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
