Stuart Alden Abbott, aged 80, went to be with his Lord in his heavenly home on December 16, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Glennis; his brother, Arlen, and first wife, Marvalee. Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Janet; sons, Mike (Brenda) Abbott, Douglas (Laura) Abbott; daughter, Georgia (Scott) Spicer, Norm (Gina) Schalk, Allen (Nancy) Schalk, Luann (Robert) Russell; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his beloved cat, Murphy; and many friends. Stuart will be remembered for his years of volunteering for both the John Knox Food Pantry and Wyoming Police Department. He was a life member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, member of the Grand Rapids Barbershop Chorus, and a member of the Family Camping Club of Michigan. He enjoyed traveling both throughout the United States and abroad, but always treasured the time spent with his family at home, especially his time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 4150 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49508 with Pastor Mike Baynai officiating.
