Robert B. Beckwith, aged 76, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010 after a short but very courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Stewart Beckwith, his brother, Richard, and his niece, Lisa Marie Beckwith. Left to mourn him is his wife Margaret (Peg), daughters Pattie and Darrell Ayers of Westerville, OH., Jill Beckwith of Grand Rapids, and his three most precious grandsons, Connor, Jack, and Brady Ayers of Westerville, OH. Also surviving are his brothers, Jim and Becky Beckwith of Bradenton, FL., John and Sarah Beckwith of Portage, MI., Charles and Deb Beckwith of Cheboygan, MI., and Barbara and Richard Bohn of Summerfield, FL. He graduated from Creston High School, Aquinas College, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was employed by AAA Insurance for 35 years. Bob was a strong and generous man who was selfless in his love for family. The wealth he left them cannot be measured, as no value can be placed on love, self sacrifice, and family devotion. He was an avid sports fan, especially the University of Michigan, a trait he passed on to his daughters and grandsons. He loved golf, fishing, playing bridge, and reading. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2275 Diamond Ave. N.E. (meet at church) with Rev. George Darling as Celebrant. Relatives and friends may meet his family at the Reyers North Valley Chapel from 6-9 p.m. today where a Scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish, or the American Cancer Society.
