Richard "Dick" Eugene Caster, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday, September 21 at the age of 87. Dick was born to parents, Harland “Monk” Caster and Marguerite “Lucy” Caster on September 26, 1929 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was an only child. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and served as mechanic stationed in Germany until 1954. As part of his service, he worked on the combine for President Roosevelt's plane. In 1952 he married Donna Welmers, also of Grand Rapids, after proposing to her through the mail. Together they had four children. Dick was an avid photographer, a skilled woodworker and a train enthusiast. After retirement from Michigan Bell, he and Donna toured the United States, photographing lighthouses and trains and visiting national monuments. Dick is survived by his wife Donna and their children, Dick (Mary Jane) Caster, Sue (Dave) Davis, Cindy (Ron) Babcock and Dave (Vicki) Caster. Dick also had nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Monk and Lucy. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11 am at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A time of visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 am.
