Dana Koets, age 68, of Grand Rapids, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Friday, July 15, 2011, on the one year anniversary of his granddaughter Marley's passing. Dana had a courageous 5 year battle with Alzheimer's. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Marley Orsted. He will be missed by his wife of 45 years, Sharon (Fuller) Koets; daughters, Krysti (Mike) Kidder of Big Rapids, Stacey (Brad) Orsted of Holland; grandchildren, Mazzy and Chloe Chase, Mackenzie and Grant Kidder; his sister Annette (Frank) Yob of Dorr; his mother and father-in-law, Harry and Jeanne Fuller of Rockford; his brother-in-law Ron (Sue) Fuller, of Colorado, and extended family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to some special people that have helped us on this long journey with Alzheimer's: Dr. Kevin Foley, Karen Bugg R.N L.M.S.W., staff at Side by Side Day Services, Care Resources and Northview Manor. Family will greet friends and family on Wednesday, July 20 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE. A private family celebration will be held at a later date. For those who wish in honor of Dana, the family would like in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to charities that are close to our heart, Alzheimer's Association, JDRF-Ride to Cure Diabetes, or Hope Network Side by Side Day Services.
