

Michael Bruce Johnson, 66, of Grand Rapids passed away Tuesday afternoon November 23rd, 2010 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus. He was born July 12th, 1944 in Grand Rapids and was the son of the late Wilfred Anson & Jeanne Marie (Bremer) Johnson. When the call of his country was heard, he proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam Conflict. He was stationed on the USS Walke DD723. He had been the proprietor of Pop’s Trading Card Company in Rockford for many years. He was an avid lover of sports, and the Michigan State Spartans. He loved studying history, reading, and gardening. He is survived by his loving wife of eight years Susan Louise (Houghton) Johnson; two sons, Erik (Lisa), and Matt (Joann) Johnson; daughter Mary Hyzer; two granddaughters, Amelia and Lillian Johnson; brother Steve (Verna) Johnson; sister Belinda (Paul) Long; father and mother-in-law, Milo (Dorothy) Houghton; two sister-in-laws, Christine (Bob) Barnes, and Shari (Mike) Lopez; brother-in-law, Michael Houghton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Chris Johnson, and his first wife Arlene (Bessemer) Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 27th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Kent County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 27th, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that Memorial Contributions be made to the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
