Megan Winegar, age 33, passed away unexpectedly at her home on December 27, 2023. She was born on February 7, 1990 in Grand Rapids to Joseph Winegar and Michele (Leas) Winegar. After graduating from City High School, she continued her education at DePaul University in Chicago. Looking for adventure and stretching her wings, Megan found an opportunity to move to Denver. As the draw of the big city waned, she realized that being closer to family was what she needed, and she found her way back to her roots, spending the past five years in Grand Rapids.
With a kindness that was evident from her warm smile, Megan spent her life spreading empathy and supporting the underdog. Whether she was helping an animal in distress, listening to a friend in search of advice, or just providing a presence for someone needing comfort, Megan was generous with her kind-heartedness and natural compassion.
Her strong soul blossomed under the love of her family. She was especially close to her Nana, and she was very saddened when she passed away just a few months ago. However, her resilience and inner strength allowed her to move forward. She formed her own spirituality from nature and believed in the power of rocks, trees, and especially the moon. Megan also found much-needed solace from the North Club, especially during the last year.
Fiercely devoted to her friends, family and even her cat, Girl, Megan will be remembered for the way her smile lit up a room when she walked in it, and for the imprint she left on the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Megan is survived by her parents: Joe Winegar with Karen Gipson, and Michele Winegar; her brothers: Jeffrey Winegar with Christina Schucker, and Benjamin Winegar; her maternal grandfather James Roach; her aunts and uncles: Ray and Freda Winegar, Steve and Gale Winegar, Nancy Leas, Annette and Tom Jaenicke, Karl Leas with Hilde Giltner, Teresa and Ron Hawkins, Greg and Gwen Gipson, Jack and Cindy Gipson, Michael and Pamela Gipson, and Laura Collenburg, as well as numerous cousins and many friends.
Megan was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Anna Leas, her paternal grandparents Paul & Mary Winegar, and her uncle Kent Leas.
A memorial visitation for Megan will be held on Friday January 5, 2024 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel.
